Blinded is an experimental comic that pushes the boundaries of the medium by relying entirely on lettering for storytelling, with no illustrations. Created by writer Joe S. Farrar and letterer Rob Jones, the comic tells the story of a young woman who loses her sight and must adapt to her new reality.

The Story

Blinded introduces us to Sam, a young woman who wakes up after being blinded in an accident. She must learn to adapt to the fact that her relationship to the world around her has shifted forever, and the comic uses only lettering, speech balloons, narration boxes, and sound effects to convey her experience.

Experimental Approach

The comic is a tour-de-force showcase for the letterer’s craft, using only:

  • Speech balloons
  • Narration boxes
  • Lettering
  • Sound effects
  • All splayed across entirely black backgrounds
