The Adventures of Dr. Cotton Hickox is a time-travel mystery built on a gloriously disorienting premise: Cotton Hickox is lost in time on his first-ever journey into the past. Harried by a dark alter ego and haunted by memory flashes of a life just out of his reach, he must solve the mystery of his identity and regain the ability to travel back home.
Written, hand-illustrated in pen and ink, and digitally lettered by Kraig Rasmussen, Book 1 is described by the publisher as “the first piece in an epic odyssey through the fabric of reality & self” — the kind of promise that tells you the rabbit hole only gets deeper. Rasmussen’s dense cross-hatched linework gives the Victorian-leaning settings real weight, and the identity puzzle at the story’s core gives the adventure a surprisingly personal stakes: Cotton isn’t just lost in time, he’s lost to himself.
The series’ roots run through Rasmussen’s broader catalog — pages of inked tiny figures for Cotton Hickox were featured in his two-volume Odds & Ends anthology, which crowdfunded on Zoop in January 2023 and was covered by both Comic Watch and The Beat.
