Aaron Alexovich is a comic artist, writer, and character designer whose work spans the worlds of animation and sequential art. His journey began with his first professional gig—building wonderfully hideous characters for Nickelodeon’s beloved Invader Zim series. Working under Jhonen Vasquez’s surreal direction taught him that “explosive chips” were best left out of one’s brain.
Since those formative days, Aaron has brought his distinctive eye to a impressive array of projects. In animation, he’s contributed character designs to Avatar: The Last Airbender, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, and Disney’s Haunted Mansion. His comics work includes stints on DC’s Fables, KIMMIE66, Confessions of a Blabbermouth, and STITCHED.
But Aaron’s heart truly belongs to his creator-owned work. His longest-running project is Serenity Rose, now in its third volume, showcasing his ability to blend supernatural elements with character-driven storytelling. The series has developed a devoted following over the years.
His most recent venture takes him into middle-grade territory with SHOCK CITY, a horror comedy series published by Viking Books. The first volume released to critical praise, and Book Two is scheduled for Spring 2026. The series follows a Frankenstein-esque kid who teams up with an anxious human child to undo the damage inflicted by her grandfather on their town—230 pages of Halloween shrieking.
Aaron approaches his work with a philosophy learned from years in animation: “Don’t let Jhonen plant explosive chips in your brain, kids!” But there’s real heart beneath the quirky exterior, making his work appeal to readers of all ages.
