Alex Paknadel

British comics writer known for high-concept sci-fi and horror, from Arcadia to Cult of the Lamb.

Alex Paknadel is a British comics writer whose career reads like a masterclass in falling into the industry “ass-backwards.” Born in 1981, he grew up reading Marvel Treasury Editions with his father and dreamed of becoming the youngest Big Two writer ever. Instead, he earned a Ph.D. in literature, worked in digital marketing, and eventually took the leap into comics after his childhood friend Andy Diggle introduced him to editor Will Dennis at Thought Bubble.

His debut series Arcadia from BOOM! Studios—a dark sci-fi thriller about a digital afterlife—met with critical acclaim and launched a prolific career spanning Marvel, DC, Valiant, Vault, and Image Comics. He co-founded the creative collective White Noise Studio alongside Dan Watters, Ram V, and Ryan O’Sullivan, and has since penned work on Cult of the Lamb, Friendo, Giga, Redfork, and Redfork. He also contributed to All We Ever Wanted: Stories of a Better World, the Ringo Award–nominated sci-fi anthology from A Wave Blue World. His work is characterized by sharp social commentary wrapped in genre thrills—particularly exploring themes of technology, surveillance, and political extremism. Perfect for fans of smart, layered sci-fi that asks uncomfortable questions about the world we’re building.
