Alisa Kwitney

Alisa Kwitney is an Eisner-nominated American writer whose career has woven through the worlds of prose fiction, dark fantasy, and comics with effortless grace. Born in 1964 and educated at Columbia University’s MFA program—where she felt like an outlier for loving comic books and romance as much as literature—she began her comics career as an editor at DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, working under the legendary Karen Berger.

Her comics credits read like a guided tour of Vertigo’s golden age: she wrote Destiny: A Chronicle of Deaths Foretold, a dark fantasy graphic novel spanning four historical periods; contributed to The Sandman: The Dreaming; co-created Project: Cryptid; and penned Mystik U, a YA series featuring Zatanna and other magical characters at a mysterious university. She also contributed to A Flight of Angels alongside Holly Black and Bill Willingham. Her work blends wit with emotional depth, often focusing on character-driven stories that explore love, identity, and the supernatural. She contributed to All We Ever Wanted: Stories of a Better World, the Ringo Award–nominated sci-fi anthology from A Wave Blue World.
