Anthony Marques
Comic book artist, editor, educator, and owner of The Kubert School
Anthony Marques is a comic book artist, editor, educator, and entrepreneur whose multifaceted career embodies the spirit of the comics medium. A 2011 graduate of the iconic Joe Kubert School, Marques began his professional journey working as an editor at DC Comics and Dynamite Entertainment, where he honed his understanding of the craft from both sides of the drawing board.
As a freelance artist, Marques has brought fresh, dynamic visions to beloved characters across major publishers. His work on Batman: The Audio Adventures for DC Comics showcases his ability to capture the dark energy of Gotham City while maintaining the stylized aesthetic of the acclaimed podcast series. With Dynamite Entertainment, he revitalized the classic hero Green Hornet, blending the character’s Golden Age heritage with a timeless quality inspired by both the television series and the animated legacy of Batman: The Animated Series. His credits also include Red Sonja, Vampirella, Ghostbusters, and Back to the Future for IDW, as well as work for Dark Horse Comics.
Beyond his artistic contributions, Marques has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the comics community. In 2019, he acquired The Kubert School, becoming its president and owner. Under his leadership, the school continues Joe Kubert’s legacy of training the next generation of comic book creators, with Marques serving as both administrator and instructor. He also owns and operates Dewey’s Comic City, a Madison, New Jersey comic shop that has served the North Jersey community since 1991. When the COVID-19 pandemic threatened both businesses, Marques consolidated operations at the Kubert School building before eventually reopening Dewey’s at a new location in Madison in 2024.
Marques contributed to the acclaimed anthology All We Ever Wanted: Stories of a Better World by A Wave Blue World, a collection of optimistic sci-fi stories that presents positive visions of the future. His presence in this anthology alongside other industry professionals reflects his standing as a respected artist who brings both technical skill and narrative vision to every project.
Perfect for fans of dynamic superhero art with a classic sensibility, Anthony Marques represents the complete comics professional—equally at home drawing Batman, running a comic shop, teaching at one of the most prestigious art schools in the industry, and contributing to indie anthologies that push the medium forward.
