Christopher Hanchey

Comic artist and illustrator known for his work on The Ascendant

Christopher Hanchey is a freelance illustrator and comic artist whose work spans both architectural illustration and sequential art. His contributions to The Ascendant represent a significant chapter in his comic career, where he translated writer Mark C. Frankel’s dark vision into compelling visual storytelling.

On The Ascendant, Hanchey served as penciler for the first issues of the series, working alongside inker Michael Kellar to create the atmospheric visuals that define the comic’s dark fantasy aesthetic. The series follows Cail, a former Duke of Hell who escapes the underworld after millennia of villainy and begins a journey toward redemption—hunting down other escaped demons while grappling with his own conscience.

His work on The Ascendant showcases his ability to render both dramatic action sequences and moody, atmospheric scenes—essential for a story that moves through ancient Rome and Naples, across volcanic landscapes, and into the depths of Hell itself.
