Christopher Peterson is the kind of artist who makes darkness feel cinematic. With over 16 years in comics, the Canadian creator has built a body of work that spans horror, sci-fi, and noir—each project rendered with a gritty, atmospheric touch that lingers long after the last panel closes.
Peterson’s breakthrough came with Mayday (Black Mask Studios, 2015), a surreal cult thriller co-created with writer Curt Pires. Described as “a surreal ode to Tarantino, James Dean, and The American Dream,” the series caught the attention of Imperative Entertainment, which partnered with Black Mask for a TV adaptation. That same year, Peterson illustrated Broken World (BOOM! Studios), a sci-fi survival thriller written by Frank J. Barbiere that explored the lives of people left behind on the last days of Earth. Broken Frontier praised Peterson’s ability to deliver “impressive work” that balances small-scale character drama with larger existential stakes.
Before these high-profile projects, Peterson cut his teeth on the Grindhouse series for Dark Horse Comics alongside writer Alex De Campi, a Z-horror love letter that showcased his talent for visceral, pulpy storytelling. He has also contributed to True War Stories (Image Comics) and various self-published anthologies and one-shots, one of which earned a Shuster Award nomination.
Peterson contributed both writing and art to All We Ever Wanted: Stories of a Better World, the Ringo Award–nominated sci-fi anthology from A Wave Blue World—an project that let him flex both halves of his creative toolkit in service of something hopeful.
