James Lynch

Comics writer exploring themes of rejection and rebellion

James Lynch writes comics that explore the human experience, particularly themes of rejection and rebellion. His work in the We Suck at Comics anthologies showcases different ways people deal with being turned down.

In ‘This is not Happening’ from Volume 1, James explores the different ways that people deal with being rejected. He wanted to incorporate different responses—physical, mental and emotional—while keeping the truth of the story a mystery so the focus could be on the characters rather than the events.

For Volume 2, James collaborated with his wife Jeanette Lynch on ‘Ideal Bounds’, a story about resistance and rebellion. The dueling narrators have differing opinions on the efficacy of pushing back against authority, how far they are willing to go, and the role that rules play in society. As a bonus, each letter was handwritten and in some cases even aged to give it an authentic look and feel.

Their work includes We Suck at Comics: Volume 1 - Rejection, and We Suck at Comics: Volume 2 - Coloring Outside The Lines.
