Jeff McComsey built an empire on one gloriously unhinged idea: take history’s most iconic battles, then fill them with zombies. As the Editor-in-Chief of FUBAR Press, he’s forged a franchise that has topped the New York Times best-seller list, raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars through Kickstarter, and spawned a sprawling universe of anthologies that rewire the past through a horror lens.
The chaos began in 2008 with FUBAR: European Theater of the Damned, a convention book packed with WWII zombie shorts that McComsey co-created with Jorge Vega. The response was so explosive that he launched a Kickstarter for FUBAR: Empire of the Rising Dead—and it not only funded but crashed onto the New York Times Best Sellers list. Subsequent volumes—FUBAR: American History Z, FUBAR: By the Sword, and FUBAR: Mother Russia—blew the concept wide open, covering every corner of world history. Mother Russia alone hauled in nearly $96,000 on Kickstarter.
Beyond the FUBAR universe, McComsey has written for AWA Studios on Grendel, Kentucky, The Fourth Man, and The Most Dangerous Game anthology. He illustrated the critically acclaimed graphic novel series Flutter, written by Jennie Wood, which racked up multiple award nominations. His self-published American Terror was released through Alterna Comics.
McComsey’s artistic DNA traces back to legends like Hugo Pratt, Alfonso Font, and Domingo Mandrafina—artists he was introduced to by his teacher at PCA&D, the acclaimed comics artist Tim Truman. He contributed to the All We Ever Wanted anthology as an artist, bringing his dynamic, horror-honed style to an unexpectedly hopeful canvas.
