Jorge Medina

Self-published comic creator behind the sci-fi adventure Russ 5377 and the superhero comedy The Adventures of Wonder Duck, with 25 years in the indie comics scene.

Jorge Medina has spent over 25 years proving that creator-owned comics can stand the test of time. Better known in the indie comics community as J.E. Medina, he’s the writer-artist behind two distinct but equally entertaining projects: the sci-fi adventure series Russ 5377 and the superhero comedy The Adventures of Wonder Duck.

Russ 5377 began life as a self-published comic in the late 1990s, telling the story of a young boy born with amazing abilities he has no idea he possesses. Raised in an orphanage, Russ begins to recall distant memories—and the doctors must find ways to keep these memories hidden before he discovers who he really is and how powerful he truly could be. The series has been collected into a graphic novel available through ASAP Imagination, and the original chapters have found new life on Webtoons Canvas. A special 25th anniversary edition features new cover art by Santiago Baquin.

The Adventures of Wonder Duck: The Furorian Takeover takes Medina in a different direction—a sci-fi adventure comedy that leans into the absurdity of superhero conventions. Published by Dark Fire Press, the first volume features art by Big Cat, while subsequent issues have brought in additional artists like Phibbz (Joseph Olesco). The series has received distribution through Philbo Distribution, making it available in comic book shops across the country.

Beyond his own comics, Medina contributes his lettering skills to other creators’ projects. He handled the lettering for Sebastian Bonet’s We Suck at Comics Volume 1 and We Suck at Comics Volume 2, two ambitious anthologies from Wayward Raven Media that celebrate indie creativity. Medina also hosts “The Shameless Plug” email newsletter and appears regularly on podcasts like StoryComic, where he’s discussed both his creative process and his philosophy on building community as an indie creator.

Perfect for fans of creator-owned sci-fi adventures with a touch of humor, Jorge Medina represents the heart of indie comics—passionate creators making the stories they want to see, one page at a time.
