Matt Horak

A comic book artist known for his work on Marvel's The Punisher, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Black Panther, and Venom—who also designs guitar pedals at EarthQuaker Devices.

Matt Horak picked up a pencil at age three and never put it down. That lifelong obsession carried him from Akron, Ohio, and straight into the pages of Marvel Comics’ most iconic titles.

In 2016, Horak landed the assignment that most artists only dream about: taking over art duties on Marvel’s The Punisher, stepping into the boots of the late, legendary Steve Dillon. Starting with issue #7, Horak brought a fresh, muscular energy to Frank Castle’s crusade—gritty panels that pulsed with violence and purpose. He went on to draw Black Panther, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - The Rebellion, Moon Knight Annual, and Venom: Original Sin Infinity Comic for Marvel, proving his range extends far beyond the war zone.

But here’s where Horak’s story gets genuinely unusual: by day, he’s the Art Director at EarthQuaker Devices, the legendary boutique guitar pedal company, where he designs the wild, eye-catching artwork that adorns their effects pedals. It’s a dual life that most people couldn’t sustain—one foot in sequential narrative, the other in rock-and-roll graphic design—and it gives Horak’s work a cross-pollinated edge that few artists can match.

He brought that polished, expressive linework to the All We Ever Wanted anthology, contributing his distinctive linework to its vision of a brighter future.

Perfect for fans of Steve Dillon’s iconic Punisher run, or anyone who appreciates artists whose creative lives refuse to fit inside a single box.
