Ryan Lee
Michigan-based comic artist specializing in the macabre, strange, and fantastical, from Rick and Morty to Mountainhead.
Ryan Lee is a Michigan-based comic artist and illustrator whose 25-year creative resume reads like a tour through the dark corners of the comics industry. Specializing in the macabre, strange, fantastical, quirky, and monstrous, he has built a body of work that spans major publishers and genre boundaries with equal facility.
His notable credits include drawing Rick and Morty: Crisis on C-137 for Oni Press with writer Stephanie Phillips, and the creator-owned horror epic Mountainhead for IDW Publishing—a collaboration with writers Lonnie Nadler and Matthew Erman. He has also worked on Inhuman for Marvel Comics and Archer & Armstrong for Valiant, alongside contributions to Dark Horse, Dynamite, Black Mask, Image, and Heavy Metal. He also illustrated stories in All We Ever Wanted: Stories of a Better World, the Ringo Award–nominated sci-fi anthology from A Wave Blue World. Beyond comics, his illustrative work extends to storyboards, character design, and fine art painting. His art is defined by dynamic compositions and a gift for rendering the grotesque with surprising beauty—making him equally suited for superhero splash pages and creeping horror. Perfect for fans of visually intense comics that balance energy with atmosphere.
