📍 Baltimore, MD
Sarah Myer (they/them) is an Eisner and L.A. Times Book Prize-nominated comic artist, writer, and colorist who moves between worlds with breathtaking ease—from the raw vulnerability of their award-winning graphic memoir to the high-octane splash pages of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Myer has built a career that resists every box, proving that the same hands can craft a literary landmark and bring beloved franchise icons roaring to life on the page. Perfect for fans of Gene Luen Yang’s American Born Chinese, Robin Ha’s Almost American Girl, and anyone who believes the most exciting comics come from creators who hold nothing back.
Born in South Korea and adopted by a white family, Myer grew up on a ten-acre farm in White Hall, Maryland, where anime and comics became their lifeline. That passion ignited both a career and a creative survival instinct—the beating heart of their Eisner-nominated graphic memoir Monstrous: A Transracial Adoption Story (First Second, 2023). The book roared out of the gate with starred reviews from Kirkus, School Library Journal, Booklist, and the Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books, won the 2024 International Literacy Association Young Adult Nonfiction Award, and was named a best book of the year by the New York Public Library, the Boston Globe, and The Beat. An Eisner Award nominee for Best Publication for Teens and an L.A. Times Book Prize finalist for Young Adult Literature, Monstrous stands as a landmark work of graphic memoir—honest, unflinching, and deeply felt.
Myer earned both a BFA and MFA in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design, later returning to teach Drawing, Color Theory, and foundation courses for three years. Their first graphic novel, Maker Comics: Create a Costume! (First Second, 2019), channeled their lifelong love of cosplay—they’ve built over fifty costumes—into a vibrant, hands-on adventure for young readers.
Since 2023, Myer has been a powerhouse on IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures, illustrating interiors and covers for over nineteen issues and counting. They brought their bold color work to TMNT vs Street Fighter, delivered knockout variant covers for TMNT Usagi Yojimbo: WhereWhen, and extended their licensed reach to Dynamite Entertainment’s Darkwing Duck and Justice Ducks. Their cover art also ignites Green Archer Comics’ Cryptid Hacker Force and The Press Guardian.
Myer’s portfolio keeps on delivering: contributions to the Ringo Award-nominated anthology Votes for Women: The Battle for the 19th Amendment, the charming Hello Kitty & Friends Coloring Book (VIZ Media), and the educational comic Barrier Breakers: Helen Stephens for New York public school classrooms. They write and draw the ongoing webcomic Cheer Up, Michael! and are hard at work on an untitled young adult graphic novel for First Second.
A convention veteran since 1999, Myer started tabling in Artist Alley in 2002 and now tours the country as a featured guest artist. Represented by KO Media Management, they are available for freelance illustration and workshop engagements—bring this talent to your next project.
