Scott Wegener

Co-creator and artist of Atomic Robo, working across indie comics and Marvel titles with dynamic action illustration.

Scott Wegener is the artist and co-creator behind Atomic Robo, the Eisner Award-nominated adventure series he builds with writer Brian Clevinger. His dynamic, energetic illustration style brings Clevinger’s pulp-inspired stories to life with fluid action sequences and expressive character work that has earned praise from reviewers and readers alike.

Before Atomic Robo, Wegener worked across both indie and mainstream comics. He illustrated Killer of Demons for Image Comics and contributed to various Marvel titles, including Punisher: War Journal, Human Torch Comics, and the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes series. His work at Marvel showcased his ability to handle both superhero action and comedic tones—skills that would later define his approach to Atomic Robo’s unique blend.

Reviewers have consistently highlighted Wegener’s artistic contributions as a key strength of Atomic Robo. IGN noted his art “perfectly sets the tone of the series,” while PopMatters praised how “the action is well paced and filled with expertly timed jokes” in combination with his “gorgeous” illustration work that makes “the characters expressive and funny, while the action is fluid and explodey.”

Wegener has also served as an instructor at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, sharing his expertise in comic illustration. He maintains an active presence online, sharing work through Twitter (@Scott_Wegena), his DeviantArt page (swegener), and of course through the official Atomic Robo website at atomic-robo.com, where the series’ later volumes are available as free webcomics.

Perfect for fans of dynamic adventure art in the pulp tradition, similar to Mike Mignola’s Hellboy or Ross Story’s Action Squad comics.
