Black Jack Ketchum

📖 Image Comics • Started 2015

In a dreamlike version of the Old West, Tom Ketchum struggles to clear his name—and stay alive—when he’s mistaken for wanton outlaw “Black Jack” Ketchum. With the aid of his talking sidearm, a secretive gambler, and a mute girl with a Winchester, Tom evades the mysterious Union and its supernatural enforcers, the faceless Dusters.

The real Black Jack Ketchum was a distant relative of writer Brian Schirmer—a cousin to his great-grandmother—known for possible mental illness, a stint in Butch Cassidy’s Hole in the Wall gang, and a botched hanging. But this isn’t his story. It’s Tom’s: a “wrong man” narrative combined with supernatural Western elements where anything can happen in the last wild place of the American frontier.

Writer Brian Schirmer and artist Claudia Balboni deliver what Newsarama called “9 out of 10—a completely unexpected and wholly welcome addition to a revived genre.” With cover art by Jeremy Saliba, the series collected into a 144-page trade paperback.

Perfect for fans of weird Westerns, supernatural thrillers, and stories that blend Lynchian atmosphere with frontier action.
