Minimum Wage Reaper is a darkly comedic short comic that reimagines the afterlife as just another dead-end job. Written by Gabriel Fisher and illustrated by Marika Brousianou, this standalone piece explores what happens when the Grim Reaper’s iconic scythe comes with a punch card and a boss who couldn’t care less about your eternal well-being.

The story follows a reaper stuck in the cosmic equivalent of a temp agency—collecting souls for a supernatural payroll that barely covers the commute from the underworld. Fisher’s script balances gallows humor with genuine pathos, asking the question that haunts every minimum-wage worker: what’s the point of an eternity of thankless labor? Brousianou’s expressive ink work brings the underworld to life with a perfect blend of shadowy dread and workplace comedy, from bureaucratic demons to soul-crushing (literally) annual reviews.

Marika Brousianou, a Chicago-based illustrator and educator trained at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and the American College of Greece, brings her signature ink-wash style and keen sense of visual storytelling to the project. Gabriel Fisher’s sharp writing ensures every punchline lands as hard as a falling anvil. More of Brousianou’s sequential art, including her ongoing graphic novel Chapters, can be found on her website, along with her illustrations, paintings, and murals.

Perfect for fans of The Office meets the underworld, Beetlejuice, The Sandman by Neil Gaiman, and anyone who’s ever felt like their job was a fate worse than death.
