Marika Brousianou

Chicago illustrator crafting gothic horror & dark fantasy

Born in Athens, Greece, Marika Brousianou grew up surrounded by ancient mythology and Mediterranean light before moving to Chicago where she now works as a freelance illustrator and painter. Her artistic journey took her through Visual Arts at Deree College and Illustration at the Academy of Arts in San Francisco—training that gave her mastery over both traditional techniques and digital tools.

Marika’s work exists in the shadows where beauty meets darkness. Her illustrations evoke a sense of quiet unease, the feeling of standing at the edge of a moonlit forest, unsure whether to step forward or flee. She listens to doom metal while working, letting the crushing guitars and melancholic melodies inform the atmosphere she builds on each canvas and digital canvas.

When she’s not illustrating for independent writers and anthology projects, Marika is developing her first graphic novel, Chapters—a deeply personal exploration of human misery rendered in her distinctive gothic style. Her art has been exhibited in galleries both in Greece and the United States, bringing her unique vision to audiences across continents.

Perfect for fans of atmospheric horror illustration, gothic visual storytelling, and artists who transform darkness into something hauntingly beautiful.
