Benoît Chérel is a French creator whose work spans the worlds of role-playing games and bande dessinée. Since 1993, he has been developing innovative tabletop RPGs and, more recently, translating his universe into graphic novel format.

Fils des siècles: A Universe Across Time

Benoît is best known as the creator of Fils des siècles (Sons of the Centuries), a rich historico-fantasy universe centered on immortal beings called the “Fils et filles des siècles” (Sons and Daughters of the Centuries). These immortals have their nature altered by a foundational trauma, allowing them to escape the clutches of time—but at a terrible price. They become psychopompes, cleansing the bodies of the deceased of all vital breath to guide spirits to the afterlife.

In antiquity, they were known as Vautours (Vultures). To some, they are gods; to others, demons or terrifying monsters threatening all of humanity.

Career Highlights

Role-Playing Games

Benoît began creating amateur RPGs in 1993, working on Mythe d’Altaride within the Altaride writing guild, founded with his cousin Cédric Laborde-Boutet.

In the early 2000s, he co-founded Univers Fantastiques, a pioneering community platform for RPG enthusiasts that was ahead of its time in the social gaming space.

From 2012 to 2017, Benoît founded and directed Chroniques d’Altaride, a monthly 100-page magazine dedicated to RPGs and fantasy cultures. The publication remains available in digital and print formats.

Bande Dessinée

Since 2020, Benoît has expanded into comics, working with several talented illustrators on various Fils des siècles stories:

  • Le Secret de Fontainebleau - Illustrated by René Le Chadru. Twenty-first century Parisians discover a mysterious artifact in the forest… and the existence of immortals.

  • [Projet Blaincourt](https://www.filsdessiecles.com/bande-dessinée/projet-blaincourt) - Illustrated by William Dedock (Gregory Floch). Set in late 19th century northern France, an idealistic industrialist clashes with a community of immortals.

  • Hastings - An ongoing project exploring the famous 1066 battle.

  • Additional projects in development include Venise, Le Saphir d’Édouard le Confesseur, Taisho le passeur d’âmes, Pour la ligue!, Sacrifiée, and La Femme aux sept chats.
