Eric Palicki

Eric Palicki writes stories that bite — sometimes literally. The Seattle-based writer has carved out a niche in supernatural horror and crime noir, creating worlds where werewolves solve crimes and ancient mythology collides with modern paranoia. But beyond his own creator-owned work, Palicki has made his mark as an editor, helping shape some of indie comics’ most important anthologies through his work with A Wave Blue World.

From No Angel to Black’s Myth

Palicki’s breakout came with No Angel, a collaboration with his sister Adrianne Palicki (the actress known for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) that blended biblical mythology with pulse-pounding action. Published by Black Mask Studios, the series followed an Iraq War veteran who discovers she may be descended from an ancient race of superhumans foretold in Sumerian tablets and the Book of Genesis. As Entertainment Weekly noted, “Adrianne Palicki knows a thing or two about superheroes… Now, she’s turning her expertise to an actual superhero comic.”

From there, Palicki moved to Seattle and expanded his range with Atlantis Wasn’t Built for Tourists from Scout Comics, a series about a corrupt sheriff in a town with dark secrets. But his most beloved creation came with Black’s Myth from AHOY Comics, a punk rock horror series following werewolf private eye Janie Jones “Strummer” Mercado and her djinn assistant Ben Si’lat as they solve crimes in L.A.’s supernatural underground. The series, with art by Wendell Cavalcanti, has been praised for its moody atmosphere, sharp dialogue, and inventive take on the supernatural noir genre.

The Ringo-Nominated Editor

While Palicki’s writing career flourished, he simultaneously built a reputation as one of indie comics’ most thoughtful editors. His work with A Wave Blue World began with All We Ever Wanted: Stories of a Better World, which he co-edited with Matt Miner and Tyler Chin-Tanner. The Ringo Award-nominated anthology presented 24 sci-fi stories envisioning a brighter future — a deliberate counterpoint to dystopian fatigue.

Palicki’s editorial prowess was further recognized with multiple Ringo Award nominations for Dead Beats, a horror music anthology that paired terrifying stories with iconic music. He also co-edited This Nightmare Kills Fascists, a politically charged horror collection that channeled genre fiction into social commentary. His ability to curate diverse voices while maintaining cohesive thematic vision has made him one of the most sought-after editors in indie comics.

The Collaborative Spirit

Palicki’s work often reflects a deep respect for collaboration. His partnership with artist Wendell Cavalcanti on Black’s Myth has produced some of the most visually striking supernatural comics in recent years, while his editorial work with creators like Liana Kangas, who contributed covers to Black’s Myth and stories to multiple AWBW anthologies, demonstrates his ability to bring out the best in the artists he works with.
