Ian McGinty

Ian McGinty (May 6, 1985 – June 8, 2023) was an American comic book writer and artist from Annapolis, Maryland. He was best known for his creator-owned series Welcome to Showside, which Z2 Comics produced an animated pilot for in 2015, as well as his work on Adventure Time and Bee and PuppyCat at Boom! Studios.

Ian’s career spanned multiple publishers and genres. At Boom! Studios, he illustrated numerous issues of Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors, bringing his distinctive cartooning style to beloved licensed properties. His creator-owned work Welcome to Showside showcased his ability to build imaginative worlds with heart and humor.

His bibliography also includes work on Invader Zim at Oni Press and contributions to Hello, My Name Is Poop from Wonderbound (Vault Comics), where he provided art for this middle-grade story about a boy who discovers his unfortunate nickname grants him magical flatulence powers.

Ian passed away on June 8, 2023, at the age of 38. His legacy lives on through his vibrant, imaginative comics that brought joy to readers of all ages.
