Jen Hickman
SCAD-trained artist known for striking visuals and dynamic storytelling in indie and mainstream comics.
Jen Hickman is a visual storyteller and graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Sequential Art program. Their artwork has appeared across indie comics and mainstream publishers, consistently praised for its striking composition, emotional depth, and distinctive limited color approach.
Hickman’s portfolio includes work on IDW Publishing’s Jem and the Holograms: Infinite, where they illustrated key issues and covers. They created the original series Moth and Whisper (Aftershock Comics) with writer Ted Anderson, a sci-fi spy thriller set in a world where spies can hack minds. Their other notable work includes SFSX for Black Mask Studios and Lonely Receiver for Aftershock.
For Vault Comics, Hickman illustrated Test, the sci-fi mystery by Chris Sebela about a bodyhacker searching for a town selling the future. Their art brings Aleph Null’s journey to life with visuals that capture both the technological surrealism of Laurelwood and the emotional weight of identity crisis.
Beyond comics, Hickman is collaborating on The Harrowing (Abrams Fanfare), a YA graphic novel about a psychic teen girl tracking killers, which won the 2024 Fiction Middle Grade & Young Adult Award from the Writers’ League of Texas. They’re also working on Buzzing (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers), a middle-grade graphic novel about managing OCD through gaming that was nominated for a 2024 Eisner Award.
Perfect for fans of dynamic, visually striking comics that blend genre storytelling with emotional depth, similar to the work of other acclaimed indie artists.
