Katherine Blakeney
Animator, author, illustrator, archaeologist, film historian
📍 Maine
Katherine Blakeney has one of the most fascinating backgrounds in indie comics. An archaeologist who became an author. A film historian who animates. A PhD holder who also flies planes. And through it all - a creator obsessed with monsters.
The Multidisciplinary Creator
Her work explores themes of Otherness - specifically, who gets labeled a “monster” and why. This deeply personal theme stems from her academic background (PhD from University of Edinburgh on Silent Era Gothic Novels) and drives everything she creates.
Yorwick Castle Publishing
She founded Yorwick Castle Publishing - an indie press dedicated to stories about outcasts, “monsters,” and those who don’t fit society’s expectations. It’s a mission-driven publisher that amplifies voices often marginalized in mainstream comics.
Her Work
- Napoleon’s Starship - Graphic novel about love and rejection across species
- The Metamorphist - Horror series about transformation
- Digging in the Stars - Debut novel (Blaze Publishing, 2017)
- Multiple anthology contributions
