Vlad Popov
Colorist and artist known for his work on Fearscape at Vault Comics.
Vlad Popov brings both coloring and illustration skills to his comic book work, providing the visual tone for Vault Comics’ Fearscape. His color work on the meta-fictional horror series helped create the unsettling atmosphere that defines the Fearscape—the realm of nightmares where humanity’s fears take physical form.
Working with artist Andrea Mutti, Popov created a cohesive visual package that served the story’s dual nature: it’s both a traditional horror narrative about battling fear-creatures and a more complex meditation on storytelling, creativity, and the nature of fear itself. His colors shift between bright fantasy elements and darker horror tones, reflecting the story’s thematic range.
Beyond Fearscape, Popov’s client list includes major publishers like Dark Horse, BOOM! Studios, Heavy Metal, and Wired, as well as work on licensed properties. This range demonstrates his versatility as an artist, able to adapt his style to different genres and tonal requirements.
The collaboration between Popov, Mutti, writer Ryan O’Sullivan, and letterer Deron Bennett resulted in a series that earned Eisner Award consideration—a testament to the team’s cohesive vision and execution.
Perfect for fans of comic color artistry, horror visuals, and the collaborative nature of creating distinctive comic book aesthetics.
