William Kirkby — the artist behind the handle chamonkee — is a British comics creator from Sheffield who’s quietly become one of the most reliable storytellers in the Critical Role comics universe. For Dark Horse, he drew two volumes of Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins: Yasha Nydoorin and Nott the Brave.
His Yasha Nydoorin — written by Cecil Castellucci with colorist Diana Sousa and letterer Ariana Maher — is a storm of a book, following the barbarian from her adoption by the Dolorov people through first love and grief to the rage that drives her out into the world. Dark Horse’s digital edition credits Kirkby as both interior artist and cover artist, and his bold figure work and heavy emotional beats make Yasha’s journey feel as brutal as the frozen Xhorhasian wastes she wanders. He also provided covers for the Vox Machina Origins line, including the acclaimed Vox Machina Origins II #2 cover.
