Estuary: A Ghost Story

A 4-issue limited series about a marine archaeologist who discovers that the sins of past and present are about to wash together beneath a haunted California mission.

đź“– Oni Press • Started 2026

Atop a rocky cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean sits the Mission at Arbués Point—a 400-year-old Spanish mission made infamous as one of California’s oldest and most haunted historical sites. But beneath its crumbling, tourist-trap facade, a reclusive nun has spent decades within the mission’s walls, honing her prayers and practice in pursuit of a secret long-buried beneath the chapel, and under the dark waves of the tidal estuary below.

Into this world steps Maris Cristobal, a marine archaeologist who accepts the nun’s offer to excavate fabled wreckage lying in wait beneath the turbulent waters. She brings along Hunt, a local boat guide and handsome social media influencer, to navigate the choppy waters and the deepening mystery. As Maris and Hunt grow closer to finding the truth—and closer to each other—they soon discover that the sins of past and present are about to wash together into a harrowing surge of vengeance that can no longer be contained.

From the acclaimed co-writing duo of Tim Daniel and David “D.B.” Andry—the team behind Crush Depth, Morning Star, and Red Vector—comes a slow-burning supernatural horror steeped in California Gothic atmosphere. Artist Maan House (Mine is a Long, Lonesome Grave) delivers page after page of shadow-drenched terror, his masterful use of blacks and negative space turning every panel into a creeping dreadscape. Colorist Steve Canon bathes the California coast in a palette that shifts from sun-drenched beauty to something far more menacing, while the creative team weave themes of faith, connection, and environmental consequence into a ghost story with real emotional heft.

Published by Oni Press, this 4-issue limited series launched April 8, 2026 and collects into a single volume in January 2027. Andry has described the book as one of his most personal projects, with the setting drawing from the Monterey and Bodega Bay areas—places where “cypress trees twisted by the constant breeze, foggy mornings and eerily quiet nights” make the landscape itself a character.

Perfect for fans of The Haunting of Bly Manor, gothic seaside horror, and the atmospheric storytelling of Jeff Lemire and Cullen Bunn.
