David Andry

Physical therapist by day, comic book writer by night—David 'DB' Andry is the creator of Vault Comics' Resonant and co-writer of a growing slate of genre comics across multiple publishers.

David ‘DB’ Andry is a physical therapist and comic book writer from Sacramento, California, who has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting new voices in horror and genre comics. Before breaking into the direct market, Andry spent four to five years self-publishing his own work—including a relationship drama series and several anthologies—learning his craft one page at a time.

His big break came with Resonant, a five-issue miniseries from Vault Comics that asks a bone-chilling question: what if the “Call of the Void”—that fleeting impulse to do something dangerous—became a physical force that could destroy the world? Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology (specifically Homer’s Odyssey) and from the psychological phenomenon known as “high place phenomenon,” Andry crafted a story about Paxton, a single father of three, navigating a post-apocalyptic landscape where humanity’s worst impulses manifest as terrifying creatures. The series, illustrated first by Alejandro Aragon and later by Skylar Patridge with colors by Jason Wordie and letters by Deron Bennett, became a breakout hit for Vault, earning universal acclaim, multiple sell-outs at the comic shop level, and—remarkably—a television development deal from BET+.

Andry didn’t rest on Resonant’s success. He forged a creative partnership with veteran designer and writer Tim Daniel, and together they’ve become one of the most prolific co-writing duos in independent comics. The pair have joked that they’ve “signed a blood pack, binding their souls together for all eternity,” and their collaborative chemistry is unmistakable across an increasingly ambitious slate of titles.

Their first major collaboration was End After End (Vault Comics, 2022–2024), a genre-blending fantasy series that Andry describes as “low fantasy—take normal fantasy and drag it through the mud.” Illustrated by Sunando C with colors by Kurt Michael Russell and letters by Jim Campbell, the series follows Walt, a man who wakes up in an endless war after his untimely death in the real world. Described as The Lord of the Rings meets Saving Private Ryan, the series ran for ten issues across two volumes.

At Mad Cave Studios, Andry and Daniel unleashed Morning Star (2024), a series that showcased their ability to build tense, character-driven genre stories. They followed it with Crush Depth (2025), a claustrophobic submarine thriller illustrated by Alex Sanchez, and Red Vector, a sci-fi saga illustrated by Chris Evenhuis that asks what happens when an alien civil war crash-lands on Earth—“What if Star Wars crash-landed on Earth?” as the pitch puts it.

Andry also contributed to Creepshow at Skybound/Image Comics (the anthology series based on the classic horror film), and wrote Denizen as part of Vault’s Nightfall Double Feature line, working with artist Chris Shehan. In 2026, Andry and Daniel released Estuary: A Ghost Story through Oni Press, a supernatural tale illustrated by Maan House that marks their most personal project yet.

Andry’s career is a masterclass in building momentum in the indie comics space—starting with self-published work, landing a breakout hit at Vault Comics, building a creative partnership with a trusted collaborator, and expanding across multiple publishers while maintaining a distinct voice. He’s also contributed to the benefit anthology Lower Your Sights: A Benefit Anthology for Ukraine through Mad Cave Studios.

When he’s not writing comics, Andry practices physical therapy in Sacramento and posts an arguably excessive number of chicken pictures on his social media. His personal website is dbandry.com, and you can follow him on Twitter/X (@dbandry), Bluesky (@dbandry), and Instagram (@dbandry).

Perfect for fans of Tim Daniel, Cullen Bunn, Jeff Lemire, and anyone who loves horror and genre comics that use speculative fiction to explore deeply human questions about family, survival, and the darkness we all carry inside.
