Red Vector

A Sonoran Desert Park Ranger caught between sheltering immigrants and a brewing alien civil war. Part space opera, part Western, all epic.

Red Vector is a five-issue limited series from Mad Cave Studios that crashes an interstellar civil war into the unforgiving heat of the Sonoran Desert. Written by Tim Daniel and David Andry—the duo behind Morning Star and Crush Depth—with kinetic art by Chris Evenhuis, colors by Sjan Weijers, and letters by Buddy Beaudoin, this is a space opera that feels like it was birthed from the dust and grit of the American Southwest.

Cora Martinez has spent her career as a Sonoran Desert Park Ranger navigating impossible choices—offering water to desperate migrants while steering others away from a deadly fate. She dreams of a world without borders, without conflict, without the razor wire. Then the sky tears open. Two combatants from an alien civil war crash through a rift in space, bringing their galactic war to her doorstep. Suddenly, the disputes of Earth feel very small.

The creative team describe Red Vector as a collision of genres you’d never expect to meet: “What if Star Wars crash-landed on Earth?” It’s Enemy Mine meets Saga, Battlestar Galactica filtered through Cormac McCarthy. Daniel and Andry weave a story about borders—both the ones we draw on maps and the ones that exist between species—while Evenhuis’s art grounds the cosmic in the granular, finding beauty in sand-blasted rock and alien tech alike.

Issue #1 landed on August 27, 2025, and the complete story will be collected in Red Vector Vol. 1.

Perfect for fans of Saga, Battlestar Galactica, Enemy Mine, and The Immortal Hulk—big questions blasted through an even bigger lens.
