Born in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, and raised in Buenos Aires, Derlis Santacruz came up through the Argentine comic scene—studying under Walther Taborda and Salvador Sanz—before breaking into the American market in 2013 with a first DC assignment on Batman: The Dark Knight #23.1, a Gail Simone-scripted story of the Ventriloquist.

Santacruz quickly became a go-to action penciller on both sides of the Big Two, working on Detective Comics, Batgirl, Justice League of America, Vibe, Fantastic Four, and Iron Man, as well as the graphic novel Spike: Into the Light for Dark Horse. But it was Dark Horse that gave him his most sustained run: on the 2014 Tomb Raider series he penciled issues #8–10 and #13–18 for writer Rhianna Pratchett, with inks by Andy Owens and colors by Michael Atiyeh—the arcs collected in the Tomb Raider Omnibus Volume 1. His kinetic, cinematic pages helped define Lara’s post-Yamatai adventures.

Since 2018 Santacruz has pivoted toward animation filmmaking, studying at Buenos Aires’ IDAC film institute and co-founding the production studio Hado Producciones, whose animated music video Afterparty has toured the festival circuit.

Perfect for fans of Latin American comics talent and high-energy licensed action.
