Hunter Severn Bonyun is a Vancouver-based concept artist and illustrator whose work lives at the intersection of fantasy, folklore, and character design. Known online as deerlordhunter, Bonyun built a devoted following of more than 60,000 on Instagram with a portfolio full of deer, wanderers, and soft-lit forests — the exact moody-fairy-tale energy that made the Critical Role universe a natural fit.
For Dark Horse Comics, Bonyun drew two of the eight volumes of Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins: Jester Lavorre — written by Sam Maggs in consultation with Laura Bailey — and Mollymauk Tealeaf, the tiefling whose chaotic, colorful life gets the origin treatment it deserves. Bonyun also created cover art for the Vox Machina Origins line and illustrated the series’ Free Comic Book Day issue, cementing a reputation as one of the most beloved artists in the Exandria canon.
Beyond comics, Bonyun works as a concept artist in games and entertainment, and sells prints and originals through fancyowl.com. If you love soft fantasy worlds, characters who feel like old friends, or the brilliant chaos of Jester and Mollymauk, Hunter Severn Bonyun is essential follow.
