Sam Maggs
Bestselling Canadian-American author, journalist, and comics writer of Marvel Action: Captain Marvel, The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy, and Critical Role prequels.
📍 Los Angeles, CA
Sam Maggs is a quadruple threat: author, journalist, comics writer, and video game writer. She burst onto the scene with The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy, an Amazon national bestseller that became a rallying cry for pop-culture-loving women, and followed it with Wonder Women and Girl Squads, cheeky history books that rescue forgotten heroines from the margins. Her middle-grade novel Con Quest! earned a Dragon Award nomination, and her latest comics include Tell No Tales: Pirates of the Southern Seas, an all-ages pirate adventure she created with artist Kendra Wells.
In comics, Maggs has written Marvel Action: Captain Marvel and The Unstoppable Wasp: Built on Hope for IDW, Rick and Morty: Ever After for Oni Press, and Star Trek: Waypoint — a résumé built on snappy dialogue and irrepressible heroines. In games, she’s a senior writer at Insomniac Games, contributing to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart after stints on Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
For Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins, Maggs wrote two of the series’ warmest volumes: Jester Lavorre, the chaos cleric whose saffron-painted past hides a lonely heart, and Nott the Brave, the goblin mother torn from her family. Her signature mix of humor and heart makes Jester’s mischief land and Nott’s grief cut deep — no surprise from the writer who built a career on proving that fangirls make the best storytellers.
Perfect for fans of quick-witted heroines, found family, and comics that balance big laughs with real feeling.
