Jack Holder’s relationship with fantasy began in childhood dreams and never really stopped. “Ever since I was a kid, there were dreams and fantasies going on,” he explains. “Knights fighting off trolls, and new magics that explored the very nature of reality.” As he started putting those dreams on paper, he discovered that “the words in my head would change as they came on the screen—and that fascinated me.”

That fascination led him to co-found Arcane Inkdustries, a Boston-based publishing imprint dedicated to bringing fantastic stories to readers. For over eleven years, he’s led the studio through multiple successful projects, including Kickstarter campaigns, ongoing series, and anthologies that explore faith, mythology, and the nature of belief.

Jack’s work stands at the intersection of epic worldbuilding and intimate character study. His stories weave together themes of legacy, power, and the search for meaning in worlds where magic is real and gods leave footprints. Whether following a young mage appointed to navigate the politics of floating cities, or theological investigators hunting deities in a world without them, his narratives invite readers to explore what happens when ancient forces meet modern curiosity.

Beyond his own creative output, Jack contributes to the broader comics community through the Comic Crusaders Podcast and his Substack newsletter “Figuring it Out on the Fly.” His newsletter explores the creative process with refreshing honesty—“no one really knows anything, and that’s okay”—sharing insights about his journey, project updates, and occasional free songs for subscribers. It’s this openness that defines his approach to both storytelling and community building: collaborative, curious, and always willing to figure it out on the fly.
