Wendy Chin-Tanner

Writer, poet, and co-publisher of A Wave Blue World, blending literary fiction with comics storytelling.

Wendy Chin-Tanner is a writer, poet, and co-publisher of A Wave Blue World, an independent publishing house dedicated to graphic novels with social and political consciousness. Born and raised in New York City, she studied English Literature and Sociology at Cambridge University before establishing herself at the crossroads of literary fiction and comics.

Her poetry collections include Turn, a finalist for an Oregon Book Award, and Anyone Will Tell You. Her debut novel King of the Armadillos was published in 2023 to critical acclaim—a transcendent story about family, love, and belonging set against 1950s New York City and a historical leprosarium in Louisiana. She is also the editor of Embodied: An Intersectional Feminist Comics Poetry Anthology, the first anthology of its kind, which adapts poems by non-cis male poets into sequential art narratives.

As co-publisher of A Wave Blue World, Chin-Tanner has helped shape the company’s mission of socially conscious publishing. She co-edited the acclaimed anthology All We Ever Wanted: Stories of a Better World, which The New York Times highlighted as one of seven essential comics for the season and which earned a 2019 Ringo Award nomination for Best Anthology. She is also a founding editor of Kin Poetry Journal and served as poetry editor for The Nervous Breakdown for over a decade. Perfect for fans of literary comics that blend poetry with visual storytelling and socially engaged publishing.
