James B. Emmett is a multi-talented comic creator whose journey began in Brooklyn, New York, where he earned his BFA in Communication Design from Pratt Institute. His career has spanned the full breadth of the comic industry, from editorial positions to creative direction to his own creator-owned work.

Before rising to Senior Editor at Mad Cave Studios, James held positions at Marvel Comics (Trades Department), Kess Agency, CollegeHumor, and 451 Media, building expertise in comic book development across every stage of production. At Mad Cave, he now oversees editorial direction for creator-owned comics, managing storylines, talent selection, and production while supervising teams of writers, artists, colorists, and inkers.

As both writer and artist, James brought The Committee to life through Wayward Raven Media—a supernatural thriller about a secret council racing against time to prevent the apocalypse. His illustration work also extends to Righteous Hands for Hard Coal Studios and the Kali Yuga comic pitch.

James’s editorial credits span major publishers including Image Comics (The Deadliest Bouquet), Scout Comics (Milk Run), and numerous Kickstarter-funded series (Vampires On Mars, I Am Hexed, Dead Dreams: The Lucid Chronicles, Ruination). He also edited Disney graphic novels through Papercutz and worked on properties at 451 Media including Stained, Red Dog, and NVRLND.

His creator-owned work began with Ex Occultus: Seal of Solomon (2010), published by Saint James Comics. Created with writer Robert James Russell, this was James’s first fully illustrated comic—handling penciling, inking, digital tone work, and lettering. The series follows Francis Wakefield, a grizzled adventurer with a tortuous past hunting for fortunes and secrets.
